Anniversary Photo Shoot at Sunset Cliffs in San Diego, California

One year together, many more to go.

Many of the couples that I photograph have never had professional photos taken together. This was the case with Gwen and Derek, but you’d never know it. They were naturals and obviously head-over-heels in love. They recently celebrated their one year anniversary by buying a house, adopting a puppy, and visiting San Diego! What better place to take out-of-towners than Sunset Cliffs?

As beautiful as Sunset Cliffs is, it does have one flaw - no public restrooms! These would’ve been very nice to have at the beginning of our session, but we rolled with the punches. We quickly hopped in my car and hunted down a bathroom. A large part of my job is being adaptable and jumping into action after all. Once we returned to the cliffs, we had less shooting time but still made magic! We cruised the cliffs, found our own semi-private spots, fought the wind, and shot until the sun went down. Since they were staying nearby in Mission Beach, I drove them home afterwards and got to know them even better. We chatted about their town, their new puppy, new tattoos, and the rest of their vacation plans. Gwen and Derek were so easygoing and downright delightful. It makes me beyond happy to provide wonderful people with timeless images. I hope that when Gwen and Derek celebrate their golden anniversary they are able to look back at these photos and fall in love all over again.
