Creative Portrait Session in Downtown San Diego
This gene pool though.
My Aunt Sue, Uncle Allen, and cousin Duncan came to San Diego for a visit. This was the their first time since I moved to the golden coast three years ago. I showed them some of my favorite restaurants, tried some new cocktail bars, and spent some quality time in their beach bungalow rental. Sue and Al were in desperate for some updated portraits of Duncan that weren’t taken on an iPhone and who better to take his portraits than me?!
It’s a challenge for me to see this guy and not picture him as a little kid in a cowboy costume or raving over Thomas the tank engine as a toddler. He has grown up into an extraordinary human being and as he would say, “devastatingly handsome.” We explored downtown and found a wide selection of interesting backdrops. My favorite is the library with the awesome window that is meant to look like an open book (seen below). My Aunt Sue is a librarian and LOVES to read. Seriously. She read an entire book every single day of their vacation. What better place to photograph her son?
Our last stop was the top of a parking garage that provided fantastic views of the city. We took some moody portraits with my flash and finished off the night with a bang - Duncan shotgunned a PBR. Guess what his time was? FOUR SECONDS. 4. I can’t even chug a glass of water that fast. This dude is one of many talents.
This was the perfect way to spend our last night together in San Diego. Love you Dunc. To the moon and back.
