Surprise Marriage Proposal and Engagement Portraits at Bailey Creek Ranch in Julian, California

Julian, California — the land of pie, mountain air, and looooove.

Brandon planned a weekend getaway for Nhi at Bailey Creek Ranch, tucked into the hills just outside of Julian. He looped in a few family members and friends and created a full proposal setup in the backyard with a floral arch highlighted by the rolling hills and open air. Sometimes clients want more hands-on planning, and sometimes (like Brandon) they come in with a clear vision and just need it documented well. I’ve got your back no matter what.

The Moment It Clicked

When they got to the ranch, Brandon casually suggested they take a stroll and check out the property. They appeared around the house and then Nhi saw the arch. Everything slowed down for a second and I could see the moment Nhi realized what was happening in real time.

Brandon got down on one knee, and Nhi immediately lit up. I couldn’t help but smile behind my camera as Nhi jumped up and down with excitement. After giving them a minute to take it all in, we moved into engagement photos around the property. We wandered the grounds, took in the views, and let things unfold naturally. We frolicked through the grass, enjoyed the scenery, played on the tire swing, and appealed to our inner children.

Why Julian Is Such a Good Spot for a Proposal

If you’re planning a proposal and want something a little more private or weekend-focused, Julian is a fantastic option.

You get:

  • Open landscapes and rolling hills

  • A quiet and serene enviornment, like you’re the only two people on earth

  • Access to the greatest, tastiest pies afterward

The Process Behind Planning a Proposal in San Diego

My approach as a San Diego proposal and engagement photographer is pretty simple:

I help where you need it. Sometimes that means:

  • Location ideas

  • Timing the light (especially for sunset proposals)

  • Bringing some celebratory bubbly

  • Calming you down and reminding you to breathe before popping the question

And sometimes it means showing up and documenting what you’ve already designed.

I photograph proposals, engagements, and couples across San Diego, California, and worldwide, focusing on moments that feel like you — not overly posed, not overthought, just real.

If you’re planning a proposal, I’m always happy to help you think through it and document it authentically. Let’s chat!
