Where did the time go? One minute you’re shaking hands with a bright-eyed elementary schooler, and the next, you’re photographing her senior portraits at Chautauqua Park in Boulder, Colorado. If anyone can make you feel like time is flying faster than a Colorado sunrise, it's Kate Wilson.
I’ve had the honor of photographing all three Wilson sisters—first Emma, then Erin, and now Kate. All three sessions have been at sunrise when the crowds are at a minimum, the light is just right, and the coffee is, well, necessary. The joy I feel being trusted to capture such a momentous time in their lives is immeasurable. Watching these incredible young women grow up and face new adventures is special yet terrifying.
When I first met these three, I was in college and Emma, the eldest, had just entered double digits. My Auntie Annie started dating Jeff Wilson, their dad, and soon enough, it was time for their families to meet and transition into the Brady Bunch. I can’t believe there was a time that Emma, Erin, and Kate weren’t my cousins. I feel like I’ve known them their whole lives - we were meant to be family :’)
Kate’s shoot was nothing short of magical. The golden light kissed the Flatirons just so, creating a backdrop that only Colorado could provide. And Kate, with those big blue eyes that first greeted me all those years ago, brought her A-game. Her laughter echoed down the trail and her vibrant personality shined in the final images.
I cannot emphasize enough the importance of celebrating these milestone moments. Senior year only happens once and it is one of the years I personally grew the most. Being able to see yourself and your loved ones evolve from childhood to freshman year to senior year to college and beyond is priceless. It is a visual representation of the person you were and how far you’ve come. How cool is that?!
Kate, it’s been an honor to document this journey for you and your sisters. I can’t wait to see where life takes you next. I’m crossing my fingers hoping I’ll get to photograph your graduation portraits down the line—after another coffee run, of course.
