I first met Danielle during my branding mini session day. She’s an insanely talented hairstylist who specializes in colorful, intricate braids perfect for music festivals (@danielle.doing.hair check her out). She had just moved from Denver, Colorado which is where I’m from, too! I ended up in her chair for some braids and a yap sesh where she told me about a guy named Dan she met back in Denver. They must’ve hit it off because he moved out to San Diego as well and bing, bam, boom… they ELOPED!

They wanted something more intentional to announce their marriage to friends and family — a session that felt true to them. Belmont Park’s Lazerblast Arcade was an easy pick. It was one of their go-to date spots early in their relationship. There was no shortage of neon glow, air hockey battles, and the kind of laughter that makes you forget you’re having your photo taken. As a bonus, Belmont Park created numerous floral displays around the park for spring time! It was perfect.

After a quick outfit change, we traded the arcade for the beach. The contrast was perfect: from loud and colorful to quiet and crisp. San Diego gave us that soft, blue-hour light, and the ocean was doing its usual thing of making every frame feel a little cinematic. It was still them — just a different side. Playful and romantic in equal parts.

Danielle and Dan’s session is the perfect example of how couples portraits don’t have to fit into a single mold. They can be part date night, part announcement, and part “let’s just go have some fun together.”

If you want couples or engagement portraits that feel like you, whether that means an arcade, a mountaintop, or your favorite taco stand — let’s make it happen. Reach out here and let’s tell your story your way.
