Balboa Park Couples Session with Kristina and Evan in San Diego, California

Balboa Park Couples Session in San Diego, California (Southern California Photographer)

Off to Kauai!

This was my third shoot with Kristina and Evan and it is a blast every. single. time! We first met in 2018 at a mutual friend’s birthday party and I just knew I found my peeps. Of course when they asked to book an engagement session with me, I was ecstatic. I was in the early stages of building my client base and building my portfolio. Soon enough, COVID-19 hit and everyone was just trying to keep their heads above water. Photoshoots dried up and Kristina and Evan had to postpone their elopement in Hawaii.

In 2021, things began to look up! The vaccines were released and we finally had a taste of normalcy. Kristina and Evan had the wonderful idea to take updated engagement photos exactly one year from their new wedding date. It was apparent how much I had grown as a photographer and I am happy to say that the trend has continued through our latest shoot together.

Their big trip was right around the corner when Evan came to me and asked to book a couples shoot before they left. He cut off his man bun for the wedding and said, “I think she’d like some short hair photos, too.” Our first two shoots were in Ocean Beach with natural landscapes so Balboa Park seemed like a good change of pace and added some variety! We met at the Alcazar Garden at golden hour - a classic choice. We explored the park, easily found beautiful architectural backdrops, and shared excitement over their upcoming trip to Kauai.

You know what I love most about shoot with Kristina and Evan? It’s candid. Our work together is the definition of “prompting” as opposed to posing. Photoshoots don’t need to be difficult or stressful nor should they be. A couples shoot should be a fun date that you get to relive through photographs and that is an incredible power. Kristina and Evan simply interact with each other and I observe, capturing the details and special little moments between them. Moments like booping each other’s noses and the occasional ass grab (I’m looking at you Evan).

My goal going into every shoot is to deliver a gallery of beautiful images that feel natural and genuine. You will look at your gallery and see YOU, not some airbrushed, stiff version of yourself. If you and your partner aren’t hand holders, I won’t ask you to hold hands. Don’t like PDA? No worries. Maybe y’all like to tease each other and flip each other off - let’s roll with it.

As I publish this post, Kristina and Evan have returned from their celebration in Hawaii and are officially married. From what I hear, it was worth the wait. Congratulations you two! I’m looking forward to some anniversary shoots now :)

You’re telling me that you survived the dating world and came out of it with your person and you don’t have professional photos together yet? Nuh-uh. Let’s chat and get y’all on the books!
