Branding Portraits with Erika Eberhart of Betty Moon Studios at Gud Times Studio in La Mesa, California

Erika Eberhart of Betty Moon Studios poses with botanical artwork for brand portraits at Gud Times photo studio with Mallory Kessel Photography, San Diego brand portrait photographer.

Capturing botanical beauty…

Southern California, known for its stunning landscapes and vibrant artistic community, is home to some of the most talented creatives I’ve ever known. Erika Eberhart, the founder of Betty Moon Studios, is no exception. Erika is a gifted botanical artist and bouquet preservationist who recently relocated to Oceanside, California from Hawaii. We share the same business coach, Justine Mulliez, who introduced us and after a coffee date, Erika reached out about a brand portrait photoshoot.

Good Times at Gud Times

Our creative project unfolded at Gud Times, a studio space in La Mesa, California, owned by fellow San Diego photographer Gabriel Conover. Gud Times, nestled in the heart of Grossmont Center, is a photographer's paradise. One of the main draws of this studio is its abundance of natural light, creating a dreamy atmosphere for capturing beautiful moments. The studio offers a versatile space for all creatives and it is by far my favorite studio in San Diego.

Setting the Scene

For this branding session, we aimed to capture Erika’s personality, her presence, her beautiful artwork, and the essence of Betty Moon Studios. After assessing the many lighting possibilities, I decided to take advantage of the natural light in the studio while using a white bounce board to reflect soft light onto any shadows for a flattering, natural effect. We perused the available backdrops and felt pulled towards a painted canvas; however, we opted to use the backside of the canvas to achieve a neutral, textured background that would allow Erika and her creations to steal the show.

The Artist Behind the Art

We began the session with a series of portraits that showcased Erika in a stunning white suit - it was crisp and clean and served as an excellent canvas for the vibrant colors of her floral creations. She wore jewelry made by her sister Nikki who designs permanent jewelry. We experimented with posing and came up with some relaxed yet unique poses that captured Erika’s essence and spirit of her brand. Erika showed off her floral tattoos as well which added a special, personal touch to the images, emphasizing her deep connection to florals.

As the session progressed, we started incorporating Erika's stunning floral art pieces into the shoot. From decorative pieces to serving trays, paperweights to tabletops, each creation brought its own touch of botanical beauty to the scene. Erika even designed art pieces specifically for this shoot and she knocked it out of the park!

Conclusion

Capturing the essence of Betty Moon Studios and Erika Eberhart's one-of-a-kind botanical artistry was an unforgettable experience. Our photoshoot at Gud Times was a great way to spend the morning. The entire scene mixed with her exquisite floral creations resulted in a portfolio of images that perfectly embody the spirit of Betty Moon Studios. It was a pleasure working with Erika and to be trusted with such a meaningful project.
